Why promise at all
Never meant to honor those words
Kept less than half the promises
Better off wishing on a star
Or dropping a coin down the well
Better chances of those coming true
Just wishful thinking
I promise
How foolish the illusion
I promise means I won’t
Not wanting to break your heart in the moment
The brokenhearted will come with time
To escape judging eyes
We promise all things
While never intending to do them
