A dark abyss stares back
The depth is unknown
Only wonder and confusion circle your mind
The wonderment of what awaits in the dark
Confusion of why we stand at the edge
It’s neither cold or hot
No air or wind comes from the emptiness
An unease felt that curls my skin
Sound is lost in the darkness
It’s unfamiliar and unwelcome
Light is swallowed and ineffective
You will not find your mind if you stare too long at it
It stands ready to run away
Still, my feet are planted at the edge
The more I stare
The more I want to jump in
It has me
I step forward to surrender to it
What’s on the other side
